Mugging by state.

(This is the second of a series of posts hanging out with my brother and his friends).

We were mugged.

The place? Route 78 west in Summit.

The muggers? The New Jersey state police.

Their justification? Failure to keep right in 65 mph zone (count on New Jersey to be pioneers in inventing traffic violations).

The amount? That’s to be determined, I didn’t say they were competent. Ballpark figure is around $140. And two pointfor driving on the passing lane too long!

The state of New Jersey is short on money… again. Having discovered that heavily taxing Jerseyans just drives them out of the state, the state is using State Troopers as highwayman. Sure, they were polite, but it was no doubt a stick up. One trooper had his gun at the ready while the other decided to frisk my brother and me. Worst, at least actual muggers will only take the money in my wallet and be done with it. These highwayman are making us wire them the money at a later date.

We were mugged by the state of New Jersey.

Some people may be shocked, but I have a temper issue. Most people do not get that vibe because I do my very best to keep it under wraps. Most importantly, I do not go off on people. Sure occasionally, I get testy towards persons of authority. For the most part, I handle it very well.

Until today.

No, I haven’t blown up at anyone, but I wanted to. Mainly, I find myself getting frustrated at minor problems even though my day is going pretty well. I’m frustrated that I can’t get Twitter to work with Simplepie even though I did finally put up my beta portfolio site (right here). I was pulling my hair when everytime I get killed online even though I’m doing pretty well. Finally, I’m frustrated when my fantasy baseball team can’t hit the damn ball (still ahead this week so far).

I admit, I am frustrated by this job market. I had more opportunities 1 1/2 years ago as a n00b in the web industry than today. And plus, I haven’t hit anyone yet (violence happens if I don’t keep it in check). But today is the first time in awhile I wanted to do something destructive.

I don’t have anyone to talk to about this. This blog will do.

There are a lot of blue LED’s on my PC rig. There is one on my case. One on my speaker’s volume control. One on my external drive. And a whole slew of them on my mouse. The only LED that is not blue is the green LED on my monitor.

It looks pretty, but at in the dark that shit lights up the room like Poltergeist.

There are times when I have to leave my PC on while I sleep. The lights disrupt my ability to do so. Now I have to cover each LED up before I go to sleep.

It could be worse, though. I could be one of many dumbasses who buys blue light alarm clocks. If my PC is bright, imagine staring at the time at night.

Next time I’m buying stuff with red LEDS. That way it doesn’t bother me and it brings a demonic ambiance to my room.

Update: Just got my Wacom Bamboo tablet. Oh look! More blue LED’s. Four of them.

Route 22 West Bridgewater, NJ

So today on my way home from work I got to experience what its like to be a turd held in for a minute and slowly excreted (and repeat three times).

During rush hour, once you pass Bridgewater Commons on Route 22, it turns into a three lane highway. I have no idea why but cars would split and pile up at the first traffic light on Somerset Corporate Bvld. That road is for two office complexes.

But then less than a mile the road merges back into two lanes at a second traffic light, this time in a major intersection, Country Club Rd. So having to merge lanes like that is like having to hold your big Randy Marsh shit while sitting in an empty toilet bowl that is the rest of Route 22.

In total, I spent over ten minutes driving through less than a mile of road.

The most plausible theory I can think of is by adding that extra lane it prevents traffic from backing up into the 202/206 entrances (not that it matters since those lanes are backup all the time).

But I personally think some intern at NJDOT thought it would be funny to widen a highway for less than a mile for lulz.

I’m not amused.
