It’s the annual “let’s risk death in the rapids” whitewater rafting trip. Just like last year, the goal is not to fall in the water and split my head open in the Gauley River’s many pointy rocks. Last year, I took a hard plastic paddle in the chin. No way in hell is that happening again.

More importantly, hang out with people more polite than the folks here in Jersey and New York. So nice, I am willing to be a WVU fan for a day and watch them beat Auburn. Go Mountaineers!

Sweet. I was on the Gauley River last weekend for my semi-annual pilgrimage. No swims this year on the upper and lower run but plenty of carnage around mee. Two swimmers in bad shape, a messed up knee for a guide at Ace, and another rafter messed his ankle up bad. My bruises still hurt a week later and I never left the raft.

And a gentleman from Ohio was killed the day before on Insignificant

I just came back. Other than a scratch from rubbing against the intertubes and a lower thigh sunburn my group and I were mostly unharmed.

Our group had to pull out another group that got caught in Pillow Rock. There were a lot of people in Upper Gauley so there was plenty of chaos in my end too. Lot of fun.
