A long time ago, someone in the family purchased a CD of a compilation of DOS games (there were over a hundred of them) in Hong Kong. One of these games was King’s Bounty, which, at the time, was a very deep RPG and turn-based combat. As a tweener, that was too much RPG for me.

18 years after the release of the first game, the Russians released a remake as King’s Bounty: The Legend. Based on the review, finally there is something to compete against Civ IV for my attention.

Update: Now that I spent the whole weekend playing this instead of playing webdev, I can fully review this game. Just as the Gamespy review said, the translation is as lousy as it looks. I guess the jokes are funnier if you say it in Russian. The story is also pretty sparse as you just spend the entire game questing and killing.

Who cares? Who cares when pirates, snakes, and bears can fight side by side? Who cares when one hour you are frantically running away from a stronger army and the next hour you are looking to beat their asses down?

I spent hours and hours just leveling up and doing my best to create an unstoppable army. Forget the minor flaws, those can be fixed. This is one addictive game. I didn’t even know I waited 18 years for this.

But I’m so glad I did.

Only a true remake of Transport Tycoon Deluxe could top this.
